Social media is difficult like intimacy

Do you want to be a gatekeeper or a gatejumper?

Quote

"So if you’re not participating – i.e., if you’re not responding to blog comments, or if you’re talking to yourself on Twitter, or you’re refusing to claim your name on Facebook, you lose.

If you do not participate, you are not a part of social media. You’re last year’s season. Obsolete. Outdated. Old-fashioned. And oh-so entrenched in traditional media."

I hear you Rebecca!

The baby is back in the pool

You know you are getting older in alternative rock when
the baby you where smiling at when you where in your early twenties,

Smiles back at you as a teenager.. [Link]

It's a boy!
More than 17 years ago, Spencer Elden was dropped into a swimming pool in California, where an underwater photographer shot the famous picture of the naked baby- (with no doubt) boy.

Now, 17-year-older Spencer recently re-created the iconic Nirvana album's cover in the same pool at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center in Pasadena, California — only this time, he was wearing shorts. Good choice!

Good for you Spence.
And I do think you look a whole lot better on your teen picture ;-)

Music blogs will become 'Record Labels'.

"Within 2 years, the leading music blogs will
become what used to be called 'Record
Labels'. The people running them will be
those sharp, tuned-in, hyper-networked and
resourceful BlogJs formerly known as
bloggers. They will use their blogs as the
primary attention channel.." [Read the rest]

Hmm.. Interesting Gerd Leonard. I hope you are on to something.
If music blogs should build up to this, we need more bloggers on board of the same (dare I write pirate?) ship. I am game.

In the mean time we will let the major label fight the future..

Big Ups for Ben Folds

With Ben Folds recent Release 'Way to Normal' I have been following the reviews.
And somehow the critics are bashing him for being a Has been and trying too hard.. WTF are you talking about?!!

Here is a true artist that sings hes persona out with so much sincere truth in every word.. The critics aren't able to appreciate it because of the own fear of being way to normal!
Shame on you for betraying your own ears in vanity.

And Folds collaboration with William Shatner on Has Been is invaluable to the music scene. Story Link

When ever somebody belittles that project in reviewing Folds and Shatner I immediately reach for my personal music snob gun.

When I first visited MIXA I just couldn't figure out what it was all about.
The graphics showed some sort of cassette tape with a USB port in it, as if making a mixed Cd for your girlfriend was something brand new!?

BUT THEN the dime dropped on me. The cassette tape with the USB port build in is real. You can buy an old school casette deck with 1GB for your ownmixe tape collection.

Why do we have to put up with the lame digital booklets?

Dear record companies, haven't you learned anything?
2 years ago I bought a Madonna record on iTunes, just to See the attached digital booklet that came with the download. Back then I was strongly disappointed with the lame pdf booklet and honed Madonnas staff for being uninspired and without vision.

One of the reasons I don't miss Cd's is that the art work is usually nothing more than a pamphlet with short term value, except for the lyrics of cause. It's definitely not Worth keeping the CD around for the future.

Bought on iTunes
Recently I bought TV on the Radio (with a digital booklet) to see how far they have come. And it's  nothing more than the same lame pdf scribble with a couple of photos from the cd booklet cover scanned to a pdf file. Is that really all you can come up with??

IF you want to offer me added value or some sort of rich context to the audio files. Convince iTunes (instead of fighting) to ad more text and graphics to the individual tracks. The pdf file is simply an insult to a paying costumer. And I hope I don't have to educate you on what sort of rich media content an pdf file is actually capable of (see below).

If you want me to actually buy the music from iTunes you have to give me a better offer than illegal mp3s from the net, that sometimes contains better tagging than yours.

If you need help thinking up ways to add content or simply need inspiration - feel free to contact me. I have enough ideas for the next generation.

What do you know(?)

Since i wrote "This Blog is all about discovering the web, from an bend angle" in the title line i googled "Bend Angle" and found this; Bent Angle TV .

One of my all time favorite songs. Guess why..

History of the English Language

Hmm.. interesting. My ancestors started the whole damn thing :-)
I live right beneath the "U" in JUTES.

The history of the English language really started with the arrival of three Germanic tribes who invaded Britain during the 5th century AD. These tribes, the Angles, the Saxons and the Jutes, crossed the North Sea from what today is Denmark and northern Germany. [LINK]

55GB music + Apple iTunes = Genius

Alright alright Steve. You are rocking ;-)

My first impression of the iTunes Genius Toolbar was not impressive.
First of all I like to discover music on my own through various Podcast and music blogs, and the danish iTunes store is not really that impressive and up to date, thanks to all the ridicules regional codes.

Recommendations and discovering
But I must admit that the feature where iTunes lists what albums and songs from an artist I am still missing comes in handy when you are discovering new artists, which I love and do a lot.

Annoyance, ignore, genres and stupid
But it's almost annoying when it comes to established artist who have numerous albums behind them. Albums I choose to ignore.
And when it comes to danish artist, like VETO e.g., Genius merely lists all the danish indie artist that are in the store, without taking genre into consideration... and that is, quite frankly, stupid.

Submitting smarter genres
The biggest bang is definitely the Genius smart playlists. I have already successfully let Genius create a couple of playlists from my 55 GB music collection and even though some of the suggested tracks where plain rubbish, it managed to let me rediscover artists that I have almost forgotten in the bottomless pit of my fast growing music collection.
On the bonus side it also made me delete albums that I have almost forgotten, and it made me remember why ;-)

It still needs to get a lot smarter, but I've learned that it's supposed to learn the algorithms the more you use it. And that brings me to something I've been at for a long time. Unless iTunes get smarter genre specifics, the genre parameters are never gonig to work to it's fullest.
You cannot sort or create a playlist from genre alone as long as iTunes list entire albums as one genre. One album can easily contain rock, pop, ballad, hard rock etc.

User submitted genres
Now I believe that Genius works on different user experience and will eventually learn to surpass the genre obstacle, but until then I suggest that Apple urges it's users to submit their chosen genres for the specific songs and let the masses decide.
And from now on iTunes should let every artist and record company add more specific content to their tracks - thank you.

Until then I will do my best to feed the Genius with my extensive music playlists.

UPDATE

I wrote this comment in an LinkedIn forum on the Genius effect.

By now I could easily see iTunes, Last FM, Pandora, MOG, MySpace e.g. start up their popular radio stations with hosts that represent their community. At this point I probably listen to as many hours of music and lifestyle podcast as I listen to music tracks.

I hope that in the near future we could be free of the hassle of owning Our own music copies. Unless we want to buy special designed packaging and booklets or want to listen to handpicked albums on our high end audio, there is no reason to download, back up and update Our music collection over and over again.

I need a phone call

This circus is falling down on its knees.
The big top is crumbling down .
Its raining in Brande, fifty miles east. Where you should be, no ones around.
I need a phone call. I need a raincoat. I need a big love.

These trained conversations are passing me by And I don't have nothing to say.
You get what you pay for But I just had no intention of living this way.
I need a phone call. I need a plane ride. I need a sunburn. I need a raincoat.
And I get no answers, And I don't get no change .

Its raining in Brande, baby. But everything else is the same.
Theres things I remember and things I forget. I miss you I guess that I should.
But what would you change if you could?

I need a phone call. I can always hear a freight train if I listen real hard.
And I wish it was a small world. Because I'm lonely for the big towns. Id like to hear a little guitar.
I think its time to put the top down. I need a phone call. I need a raincoat

Semantify yourself!

Hello human visitors, and web crawlers. Allow me to geek out for a minute.

Now, I love the internet, new apps, gadgets and widgets. But it has it's drawbacks and is too often a time waster - so is the medium we are using to surf the net - the computer.

But don't give up, in the near future (4 - 8 years) the computers and the web will grow a lot smarter, if we allow it.

The Future in the Cloud
In the near future most of our programs will run on web apps and the machines we sit behind will be as easy and disposable as a cell phone, because of all the 'brain power' will be in Cloud Computing.

The days we spend fixing and updating the piece of junk on Our desk are soon over. Soon it just evolves on the net, without you even noticing it.
But most off all, the net will learn to know what we want with the semantic web. Yes it's all a part of the machines taking over the world and yes soon we won't have to think for ourselves - and I look forward to it.

Work with Gut Feelings
In the future we can choose more by gut feelings and focus on taking the right ethical choice. Hey, maybe the net will start to sort out all the shady types on the net for us and we won't have to get fooled again.
But we have to start somewhere

Make your site readable by semantic search engines - Dapper
The semantic web is the first step in the right directions, if We want the net to grow smarter. So if you are a content provider or site owner, you must begin to demand smarter SEO for your site.
If not, your site will become stale and useless before you know it and all the money and time spend on the possibilities for your products online life will be wasted.
The choice is Ours.

Ten Rules for Being Human

Wait a minute!
I don't remember signing this!?

1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it's yours to keep for the entire period.
2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called, "life."
3. There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial, error, and experimentation. The "failed" experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately "work."

But is it a curse or a blessing?

Idealist (iNtuitive Feeling) ENFP

"This group of individuals are the ones who are most interested in connections with people, understanding the meaning of life and continuously looking for possibilities. They have innate capabilities to understanding people well and connecting with them at their level. They are good motivators and are a source of inspiration to the rest of the group or team. Working together and finding creative solutions to problems is their forte.
They however, get very involved with the emotional aspect of life and find it difficult to separate it from their day to day life. This in turn invariably effects their decision making capabilities."

I would like to know, since that is what I am trying to work with.

Disconnect!

I am an online addict.
There, I admit it. I can not stop surfing the Internet
and would love to have 24/7 online access.
The problem is, there is so much more in life to love.

But
how do you disconnect, with out loosing touch?
It's not just being connected to the
internet that seems to be the problem, it's productivity.
Whenever I have to solve the simplest task, bank payments.., I get distracted by my
rss, mp3s..
There is so much coke for an information junkie out there.

So I checked this out: Disconnected Productivity: 9-Step Program to Cure Email Addiction - Stepcase Lifehack
Problem is, I replied 3 mails while reading it.

So another problem is my attention deficit. What to do?
I'll spend my next couple of month trying to figure this one out.

More Fire than Ice in the belly

As soon as your born they make you feel small,
By giving you no time instead of it all,
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school,
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool,
Till you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

When they've tortured and scared you for twenty odd years,
Then they expect you to pick a career,
When you can't really function you're so full of fear,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV,
And you think you're so clever and classless and free,
But you're still fucking peasents as far as I can see,
A working class hero is something to be,
A working class hero is something to be.

There's room at the top they are telling you still,
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill,
If you want to be like the folks on the hill,
A working class hero is something to be.
A working class hero is something to be.

If you want to be a hero well just follow me,
If you want to be a hero well just follow me.
