Too many DJ's in the cloud

Dear DJ's in the Cloud ..

If you have been following my blog you will know that I listen to a lot of music and that I use all sorts of online music discovery sources. Not only do I spend a lot of time listening I have also spend a lot of money building a solid music library. Looking back I should probably own 5000 records by now, but I have no problem deleting music that I dont listen to anymore, since my passion is music discovery.

In the beginning
Following my blog you will also know that I like gadgets and new media. I have been using everything from Napster, MySpace, Last.fm etc. to my latest music service in testing WiMP.dk

Back in 1999 I wrote an article to Politiken.dk where I urged the record industry to release the mp3 media because the restrictions was hurting upcoming artists and the consumers. However, it seems as every time a new music service get's good, the music industry or capitalizing companies ruin it. The only business model that seems to be consistent is iTunes IMO.
But the iTunes model, as it is now, is under constant attack by the music industry, since Apple is taking a big cut.
But all in all I really can't be bothered with maintaining an mp3 music library any more. The first cd's I started ripping was in 92 kbps since I never would have imagined that it would leave my iPod. Today I wont settle for less than 320 kbps, since it has to play on the hi fi as well. Therefore my oldest rippings are wothless and I there is no way I will rip them again.

Cloud services
So needless to say I am waiting impatiantly for a decent cloudservice model that covers all my nerd needs.
My set up til now has been a collaboration between iTunes, Last.fm, The Hype Machine, New Release streaming and the public music library ♪
Last.fm has been taking care of my social music needs and geekbeat with audioscrobbeling. And even though they had to kill their iPhone app in DK I still put my trust in their ability to come through with a solid service like Spotify e.g. Well, then again, I also had my hopes up for a iTunes cloud service in 2010

I read this article 'Dear Last.fm ..' by Henriette Weber and I came to realize that unless you knit together your own media solutions, the market is going to be constantly changing and there will be no service covering them all.
There was a time when Last.fm would develop their services and communicate with their users like this, but a year down the road they have gone corporate and the tone has changed to this

My hope is that there could be only one God to cover all my needs, but there are too many options to cover. So I keep on praying to the DJ's in the cloud to come down. We won't crucify you - this time!

The local windmill story

Uhre Mill was build in 1843-44 and is the only remaining of its kind in Denmark.

The thatched windmill is also called an "earth Dutchman" where only the mill hat, with blades, can rotate 360°. The turbine blades have been fitted with canvas after Dutch pattern.

Uhre Mill has had many different owners over time. Some of these were trained millers, who besides a little farming on the side, mainly lived from the mill.

Uhre Mill had its heyday in the period from 1880s until the 1930s. Windmill importance declined over the years as the farms got connected to the power grit, and so did the mill with an electric or petrol driven grinder.

During the Second World War the mill had a comeback for a short period, due to the circumstances. The mill was in operation until approximately. 1950 where the blades broke in a storm, after which it was no longer in use.

The wooden interior and equipment are virtually intact. 

In 1981 Uhre Mill was put under cultural- and architectural conservation law. The restoration was initiated in 1995. by the Uhre Mill Association,  which was formed in 1993.

Uhre Mill has a plate exhibition telling the story of the mill and there is an exhibition in the warehouse as well.

The mill will be open and running, if the weather allows it, as described below.

I am an avid iPod Touch and desktop PC user and I just can't get myself to buy a new laptop, when the tablet is about to be released.
That's where my real needs are

Q: Mr. Jobs asked "what is the iTablet good for besides surfing the Web in the bathroom?"

A: Do I think The Tablet is an e-reader? A video player? A web browser? A document viewer? It’s not a matter of or but rather and. I say it is all of these things. It’s a computer. 

And so in answer to my central question, regarding why buy The Tablet if you already have an iPhone and a MacBook, my best guess is that ultimately, The Tablet is something you’ll buy instead of a MacBook.
I say they’re swinging big — redefining the experience of personal computing.

2010 - the year of the web tablet

Kirpus predicts 2010 will be the year of the web tablet

The Scandinavian/US magazine publisher Bonnier gives a more detailed idea of the lay out and user interface (UI) with Mag+.

"But what is the fuzz about" - you ask?

If you are a frequent reader of newspapers, magazines, RSS feeds, social media updates or newsletters - this trend is going to include you too. Because this time the content providers are prepared, able and willing to pitch in - like Time Inc [See link].  Time Inc. and others might enter the market with a subscription plan, like 3g and cell net providers. I believe they all learned something from the music & movie industries battle against on-line media.

As blogged about by Buzz Beast the Apple iTablet is just one device to push the market forward. Here you see a picture of the JooJoo tablet (see video links below) and how about  the Microsoft Courier tablet?

Kirpus throws an Google web tablet on top of the others. The  Google tablet will enter the market at a low price and Google OS - with all it's own features, apps and adds.

In 2012 the web tablets will become a mega-trend and the iTablet is going to penetrate and change the market so much faster than the iPod!


You are going to want this, it's only a matter of the price tag.

Give me a choice

After 6 happy years with several iPods I recently bought a pair of Dali 850's (Big speakers) for my high end amplifier and it takes some dynamic range to really make them "dance".
That's when I realized that some of my favorite albums sounded flat and lifeless in hifi; Kings of Leon - Only by the night e.g.

I am pro convenience with iPods and pro HiFi on the big rig. But I wish artists would release two masterings of their studiorecordings and give me a choice between the two listening experiences.
I joined this group for all those who are fed up with the current "Loudness Race" audio mastering practices. Read all abot it in the blog or follow the links and post a shout here  if you agree.
