He used to be a wild beast by heart, but these days he has to work hard to make a living for hes family, while still trying to maintain an alternative livestyle, with dreadlocks and a rock and roll comunity atelier in Aarhus, Dk.

He never gets in front of the camera, but when he is behind, he looks like this.

Once more we took the drive from Denmark to Hamburg, to go to Club Übel & Gefährlich. Last time I was there, I was amassed but not impressed by the venue.
The club is located on top of a IIWW bunker in the St. Pauli district - hence it screams alternative punk rock. On paper that sounds awesome.
I don't mind that scene at all, but I hate the We-don't-give-a-shit-attitude towards their customers with lusy PR, comfort and service all over. There was hardly any BOH PR to spot in the city, but the show was sold out!! So for me the secrecy get's old before it even starts. Maybe you have to be a part of it to gain some respect and insider advantages. I know the scene, because I've been a part of it back in the days.

The last time I saw BOH at www.Voxhall.dk it was an entirely different scenario, with a warm welcoming spirit and conversation with the crowd. This time I almost felt anger form Ben Bridwell. They played the set with edge and noise and barely talked. They walked on stage with a "Hello we are BOH and we are going to play a couple of songs for you alright?" and they walked off stage with a "Thank you - you suck!" (I think) So I got the feeling BOH had as bad as an experience as I did and probably won't come back either.

Thankfully we had a great day im Karoviertel und an der Schanze, so the drive was worth it. There are a lot of great acts coming up and other venues to check out so we will definitely be back in Hamburg.

Too many DJ's in the cloud

Dear DJ's in the Cloud ..

If you have been following my blog you will know that I listen to a lot of music and that I use all sorts of online music discovery sources. Not only do I spend a lot of time listening I have also spend a lot of money building a solid music library. Looking back I should probably own 5000 records by now, but I have no problem deleting music that I dont listen to any more, since my thing is music discovery.

In the beginning
Following my blog you will also know that I like gadgets and new media. I have been using everything from Napster, MySpace, Last.fm etc. to my latest music service in testing WiMP.dk

Back in 1999 I wrote an article to Politiken.dk where I urged the record industry to release the mp3 media because the restrictions was hurting upcoming artists and the consumers. However, it seems as every time a new music service get's good, the music industry or capitalizing companies ruin it. The only business model that seems to be consistent is iTunes IMO.
But the iTunes model, as it is now, is under constant attack by the music industry, since Apple is taking a big cut.
But all in all I really can't be bothered with maintaining an mp3 music library any more. The first cd's I started ripping was in 92 kbps since I never would have imagined that it would leave my iPod. Today I wont settle for less than 320 kbps, since it has to play on the hi fi as well. Therefore my oldest rippings are wothless and I there is no way I will rip them again.

Cloud services
So needless to say I am waiting impatiantly for a decent cloudservice model that covers all my nerd needs.
My set up til now has been a collaboration between iTunes, Last.fm, The Hype Machine, New Release streaming and the public music library ♪
Last.fm has been taking care of my socialmusic needs and geekbeat with audioscrobbeling. And even though they had to kill their iPhone app in DK I still put my trust in their ability to come through with a solid service like Spotify e.g. Well, then again, I also had my hopes up for a iTunes cloud service in 2010

I read this article 'Dear Last.fm ..' by Henriette Weber and I came to realize that unless you knit together your own media solutions, the market is going to be constantly changing and there will be no service covering them all.
There was a time when Last.fm would develop their services and communicate with their users like this, but a year down the road they have gone corporate and the tone has changed to this

My hope is that there could be only one God to cover all my needs, but there are too many options to cover. So I keep on praying to the DJ's in the cloud to come down. We won't crucify you - this time!

The local windmill story

Uhre Mill was build in 1843-44 and is the only remaining of its kind in Denmark.

The thatched windmill is also called an "earth Dutchman" where only the mill hat, with blades, can rotate 360°. The turbine blades have been fitted with canvas after Dutch pattern.

Uhre Mill has had many different owners over time. Some of these were trained millers, who besides a little farming on the side, mainly lived from the mill.

Uhre Mill had its heyday in the period from 1880s until the 1930s. Windmill importance declined over the years as the farms got connected to the power grit, and so did the mill with an electric or petrol driven grinder.

During the Second World War the mill had a comeback for a short period, due to the circumstances. The mill was in operation until approximately. 1950 where the blades broke in a storm, after which it was no longer in use.

The wooden interior and equipment are virtually intact.

In 1981 Uhre Mill was put under cultural- and architectural conservation law. The restoration was initiated in 1995. by the Uhre Mill Association, which was formed in 1993.

Opening hours is 10.00 - 17.00 from 1. of may to 1. of october

Uhre Mill has a plate exhibition telling the story of the mill and there is an exhibition in the warehouse as well.

The mill will be open and running, if the weather allows it, as described below.

On their MySpace page, they listed their genre as 'Christian Rap'! Which makes it all even more appetizing, even though their recent punk pop rock tracks don't mention Jesus at all. But looking at the picture below, I have to ask once more ..

I am a big fan of Green Days album and everything it stands for - especially with 'American Idiot'.

But watching the musical cast perform 'American Idiot' live in the studio - makes something break in me.

This type of MTV choreographed attitude singing and dancing, without the set and effects, shows the unbearable truth about attitude, the vanity of youth, commercializing of a rebellion and the polished PC of The United States of America.

Why couldn't they have taken 'real' people who could enact the.. oh i don't know.. At least people who get pist of bye the 'agenda' and oppose to it- no matter how ugly or un-political correct it may look.

I've been watching G4 for 4 years and i am currently following Attack of the Show with different hosts. One of the nerdiest gadgets specialist is Chris Hardwick.

Give the man some credit!
Now, I often felt like Chris didn't get enough credit for he's wits and humor on the show, but he always stays cool and continue reviewing the product, no matter what they throw at him! So I felt kind of sorry for him. But it turns out, he is doing just fine.
Today I was watching Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines - surprisingly starring Chris Hardwick! At first I couldn't place he's face in media, but then I had to laugh out loud, since he look kinda chubby and with a hair cut.. There must have been a stylist..

The Nerdist
So, I turned to Wikipedia and it turns out Chris has a amazing career as an actor, television personality, writer, musician, comedian and DJ on KROQ in Los Angeles!!
Realizing all this is going to make me look different on his Attack of the Show performance in the future and he just might replace my virtual stalking of Kevin Rose.

So if you are out there reading this Chris. I am 100% behind you and wish you all the nerdiest super powers in the world. Peace..

Even though it was real hard work in the first half, because of the low water level, we all decided to continue for another 2 hours.
At the end of the day we were all tired and acing from the 25km of paddleling. But as we all agreed - it was just another day at the office, since we sat down the whole way ;-D

Canoeing in the DK wilderness

The summer is still upon us, the Danish nature is as green as ever and the water is nice and warm. Thanks to the fresh summer rain of August, there is plenty of water in the river to drive us forward on Our canoe trip on Saturday. We are going downstream for 25km/ approx. 5 hours - starting from Bassumgårdvej in Tjørrring - on this Satureday August 14th.

Remember
We all meet at Storå in Tjørring at 10:00.
Remember to bring an extra set of dry clothes and shoes (Rubber boots a impractical). Raincoats and sorts are good to have.
Bring a couple of zip-lock bags too, for your valuable belongings.
- There will be lifejackets and paddles for everybody.

Lunch
Lunch is taken care of, but it's a good idea to bring snacks and beverage for the 4 hour canoe trip - and it's not a crime to bring a few beers ;0)

Transportation
We all meet at Storå in Tjørring at 10:00

Bork Havn Musikfestival 2010

Yet again, I am hosting the main stage at Bork Havn Musikfestival. Yes I know. Sounds.. unfamiliar. Doesn’t it? Well if you know Bork Havn, you know this festival. And if you like Danish live music, this is the place to be at the very west coast of Denmark - every year!
So I thought I might as well warm up to the job by blogging about my expectations as the stage host and as a live music fan from Denmark.

I am looking forward to reconnect with my favorite live audience. They have been starving for live music all winther and they know how to appreciate a good liveshow when they see it. As always the booker Thomas Matthiesen has picked a fine mix of both new and old, with something for everybody. It is top motivating for me as the stage host to present the one talented act after another, after I have told both the artists and the audience that they are in for a treat - and they seldom fail.
I promise I’ll do my best to connect the moment between the waiting and the live experince, for both artist and you - the audience.

I have high hopes for When Saints Go Machine. We have had good luck with danceable electro rock bands from DK lately.

A festival line up with the 3 electro rock aces Troels Abrahamsen (VETO), Turboweekend and When Saints Go Machine is boudn to make the dudes dance and the girls fall in love. I see a lot of hormones and beats in the air and I hope my favorite audience lives up to it.

Too many DJ’s?
On Thursday night the tent will be pounding with 3 hours of rythm, breaks and beats. I can’t say that I know any thing about Bertram Zanjani or Rasmus Weng Karlsen. But I know my favorite frontman Troels Abrahamsens solo projects, band and DJ sets - and I know my favorite club city Århus are garanteed to deliver!! If the tent isn’t oozing with good vibes and hormones in the 3 hours, it must be my fault and the audiences lack of lust to get in the mood. So get with it Bork!

The Suicide Mission
I have seen Selvmord (Suicide) live.. And even though it’s being fronted by some of the best rappers from the Danish hip hop scene the show is an absolute downer - lyrically. Thank good the set is scheduled inbetween the 80’ties party band “Hit med 80’erne” and the talented Euro disco danceband Infernal. Maybe they’ll help us all survive..

The rock and roll finest
I couldn’t have picked a better rock mix for this years festival; The Blue Van, The Floor Is Made of Lava, The Storm, Kashmir and Dizzy Mizz Lizzy. Everybody who is able to lift their arms above shoulder level are doomed to throw the hands in the air and play the imaginary guitar; bad boys and riot grrls!

Are you still made of Lava?
I msut admit that I haven’t embraced the latest record by The Floor Is Made Of Lava - as much as I loved All Juice No Fruit (tjek blg link). But I know they rock the party live, so I am kind of hoping that they sell it to me anyway

The same goes for The Storm. Maybe they got something that I can’t hear on their records. I’ll deffinately give them a chance.
And I got my history with the re-united Dizzy Mizz Lizzy to catch up on. If they perform as well live now as they did in the 90’ties, I am going to all smiles up to both ears. If not..?

I am also a little bit curious about Alphabeat, where they able to keep the magic from shooting stars to UK fame? They are undoubtedly very talented, but a lot of their spark came from personal energy and charisma.

About BHMF - from my point of view
A major livemusic event in the middle of “nowhere” cultural, but in the richest nature and arranged by awesome locals. That’s why I always love to come back.
This year we are up against Skanderborg Festival and maybe we have lost a few of our most loyal audiences, but they know what they are missing out on. Good times, good music

'once in a life time' twice

Guilty pleasures are usually artist you are a bit embarrassed to like, but what if nobody knows them?
I am not at all embarrassed about these to rock acts, especially if they get approved by lovely ladies.
It's very rare to meet people with a deacent rock and roll history that goes beyond the American/British hard rock. And it's practically once in a lifetime that they are women.

I had a 'once in a life time' twice last week
I was wearing my Danko Jones t-shirt to my daughters kindergarden - with the 'Born a Lion' logo - when a mother approached me with a thumbs up to Danko Jones (Canada). I didn't catch her name, but she's originally from Hamburg, Germany.

She actually knew them personally and went to a couple of concerts - sweet!

On satureday I attended Martin and Lisbeth wedding in Hansted, next to Horsens, DK.
That's when I met Peta and Justin from Australia. Coincidently AC/DC was playing in Horsens that very same day and they felt all at home. Everybody agreed that AC/DC live was great for a traditional danish wedding (not ;-), but I couldn't help asking about my favorite oldschool badboys rockband from Australia - Rose Tattoo.

Peta didn't just know them, she actually played a couple of supporting jobs with them - how cool is that?!!
Of course I stuck to Peta and Justin for the rest of the night (like a Rose Tattoo), since they had the best taste in music ;0)

However, only Peta had heard of The Temper Trap (Aus). I hope I inspired them to check them out when they got back.

With that experience shared, I'll end this post with a Rose Tattoo quote:

April’s Event for the International Society is an FC Midtjylland Soccer Match at the MCH Arena in Herning.

(Next to the MCH Arena at Vardevej 1)

Beginning at 16.30 sandwiches and beer/soda will be served and we will have the time to socialize before the match!
A representative from MCH will be there to tell about events planned at MCH as well as the progression on the new Multi-Arena that is currently under construction!
At 17.30 we will walk over to the soccer match and cheer on the WOLVES of FC Midtjylland!

from Herning and Ikast-Brande Kommunes.

We will be ready to welcome everybody when the doors open at 17:30. If you paid for tickets, you are on our list and will receive your tickets from our members upon arrival at the event.

The future plans for International Society and inside information about the game:

While we are all together tonight, we will take a few minutes to tell you a little about the future of the International Society and the endless possibilities it offers. Before we get to the actual hockey match one of Herning Blue Fox's experienced hockey players will give us a little insider insight on the strategy for the match.

International English:
Since we have people from all over the world, it's going to be a colorful blend of international English. This might be challenging in the beginning, but it is absolutely rewarding if you stick with it. Please do.

Beautiful sad: Into The Wild

I finally got to see the movie INTO THE WILD by Sean Penn, since a friend strongly recommended it to me.

I kinda skipped it since the only press I read on it was about Eddie Vedder recording the soundtrack. And even though Eddie Vedder has been an icon to me for many years, I am kind of fed up with people idolizing Pearl Jam - just because they have been around for a decade and they really haven't contributed anything new in music over the last couple of records.

So I didn't think his stamp was a quality approval.

Well ... I was wrong.

INTO THE WILD blew my mind and stroke deep into my past.

In the early nineties I sold all my danish belongings and left for USA.

I had to take a few fatal decisions and grew quite radical in mind. This movie made me think about what would have happened if I strayed of my tracks and if I ended up like Cristopher McCandless, would it have been worth it?

However, I did not go for nature, but the American dream - the simple way. But somehow I ended up in Ashland, OR and fell in love with the hippie mentality and the Oregon countryside. But most of all I met some adventurous people that expanded my horizon and helped me grow as a person.

At the end of my stay (1992) I took a Green Tortoise bus travel from San Fransico to New York City, traveling all the back roads with half of my belongings in a duffelbag. That was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

I made best friends with Danny from Leeds, UK for 10 days and befriended a couple of other world citizens.

The nature trip was awesome and was a mental journey through the wild American nature.

You Americans are so blessed with nature and diversity in people and if you haven't taken a back roads trip like that yet - you don't know how much America you are missing out on.

I am an avid iPod Touch and desktop PC user and I just can't get myself to buy a new laptop, when the tablet is about to be released.
That's where my real needs are

Q: Mr. Jobs asked "what is the iTablet good for besides surfing the Web in the bathroom?"

A: Do I think The Tablet is an e-reader? A video player? A web browser? A document viewer? It’s not a matter of or but rather and. I say it is all of these things. It’s a computer.

And so in answer to my central question, regarding why buy The Tablet if you already have an iPhone and a MacBook, my best guess is that ultimately, The Tablet is something you’ll buy instead of a MacBook.
I say they’re swinging big — redefining the experience of personal computing.

The Scandinavian/US magazine publisher Bonnier gives a more detailed idea of the lay out and user interface (UI) with Mag+.

"But what is the fuzz about" - you ask?

If you are a frequent reader of newspapers, magazines, RSS feeds, social media updates or newsletters - this trend is going to include you too. Because this time the content providers are prepared, able and willing to pitch in - like Time Inc [See link]. Time Inc. and others might enter the market with a subscription plan, like 3g and cell net providers. I believe they all learned something from the music & movie industries battle against on-line media.

As blogged about by Buzz Beast the Apple iTablet is just one device to push the market forward. Here you see a picture of the JooJoo tablet (see video links below) and how about the Microsoft Courier tablet?

Kirpus throws an Google web tablet on top of the others. The Google tablet will enter the market at a low price and Google OS - with all it's own features, apps and adds.

In 2012 the web tablets will become a mega-trend and the iTablet is going to penetrate and change the market so much faster than the iPod!

You are going to want this, it's only a matter of the price tag.

After 6 happy years with several iPods I recently bought a pair of Dali 850's (Big speakers) for my high end amplifier and it takes some dynamic range to really make them "dance".
That's when I realized that some of my favorite albums sounded flat and lifeless in hifi; Kings of Leon - Only by the night e.g.

I am pro convenience with iPods and pro HiFi on the big rig. But I wish artists would release two masterings of their studiorecordings and give me a choice between the two listening experiences.
I joined this group for all those who are fed up with the current "Loudness Race" audio mastering practices. Read all abot it in the blog or follow the links and post a shout here if you agree.
